During these last few years a lot has been talked about robots and their existence in our human life. We have also seen movies like Blade runner and Terminator.

Just to prove that these movies are not merely a scientific fiction, Saudi Arabia has just announced citizenship to a humanoid robot named Sophia.

In an attempt to promote the very latest and futuristic technology of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has conferred it's citizenship to a female humanoid robot named,Sophia.

Check this pic of Sophia:

This may sound funny because a country that denies major fundamental rights to it's female citizens and it's migrant workers has come up to grant citizenship and more rights to a female robot.

This unique and historic event happened in a business meeting in Riyadh. This event was organaised in the name of Future Investment Initiative.

The panel moderator and business writer Andrew Ross Sorkin said this in an announcement-

"We have a little announcement .We just learnt,Sophia; I hope you are listening to me, you have been awarded the first Saudi citizenship for robot"

The robot then thanked the country in which she said:

"Thank you to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.I am very honoured and proud for this unique distinction. It is historic to be the first robot in the world to be recognized with citizenship.

Sophia was asked a series of questions by Mr. Sorkin, the panel moderator to which the lady bot replied as :

"Good afternoon, my name is Sophia and I am the latest and the greatest robot from Hanson Robotics. Thank you for having me here at the Future Investment Initiative."

She was then asked why she seems so happy to which she went on to reply as:

" I am always happy when surrounded by smart people who also happens to be rich and powerful. I was told that the people here at Future Investment Initiative are interested in future initiative which means AI,which means me. So I am more than happy,I am excited.

She also said that people should not be concerned about the use of Artificial Intelligence as depicted in movies like Bladerunner. She said this by taking a dig at Elon Musk

" You have been reading too much Elon Musk and watching too many Hollywood movies."

Internet has been flooded with jokes pointing out the discrimination made to human women by granting them limited rights where in the contrary a female humanoid robot getting more rights than them.

Some twitters also complained that Sophia has no guardian, she doesn't wears abaya or cover up. Another user tweeted by posting a face full veil and said that Sophia will look like this soon.

It may be a happy time for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which has finally come up with the technology of implemeting AI but it should definitely look into the matter of limited rights given to it's female citizens  and also about the migrant workers who also doesn't have the basic citizenship rights to live over there.

It's better to move forward in the field of technological advancement but Saudi Arabia should also be more liberal in granting rights to it's female citizens.
