"FASTag" mandatory for all 4 wheelers from Dec,1

In an effort to eliminate the idling of four wheelers in toll plazas and speed up the traffic by removing congestion  on National Highways,Central government has made it mandatory that all four wheelers sold in India from 1st December should have FASTag device installed on them.

This will help the motorist pass through the toll plaza without any intervention as a the toll plazas will automatically deducted the toll amount through this FASTag linked to a rechargeable prepaid account. This transaction will be done automatically and the transaction messages would be sent to your mobile.

What is a FASTag?

FASTag is a Radio Frequency Identification device which will allow the electronically operated toll plaza to deduct the toll amount without the vehicle being stopped and enabling the vehicles go through the toll plaza without waiting in queue. The FASTag will be affixed on the windscrens of the vehicles.

How does a FASTag work?

The FASTag installed on the vehicles will be directly read by a distant electronic unit placed in toll plazas. This electronic reading unit will recognize the vehicle and directly deduct the toll amount from the account linked to your FASTag device.

How to get a FASTag?

The FASTag device will be directly installed by the automobile manufacturers or the authorized dealers. But in case if you don't get the FASTag from the manufacturers you can directly buy it from the POS in authorized toll plazas or you can get these devices from partner banks like HDFC, Syndicate Bank,Axis Bank etc. Payment banks such as Paytm are also authorized to sell FASTag devices.

Some points about FASTag:

FASTag once bought will be valid for a period of five years.

FASTag will be recharged with a minimum amount of Rs100 and a maximum of 1 lakh.

FASTag can be recharged online by debit card ,credit card, net banking, RTGS or NEFT.

FASTag will be non- transferrable.

                                                                             At present FASTag passage of vehicles is present in 370 toll plazas and by making it mandatory for all the four wheelers this infrastructural facilities will be available throughout the country. This initiative can also compel the people to go cashless and hence propel one of the moto of demonetization which has gone slack.
