In one of the latest update by the Twitter which can give more freedom of expression to it's twitteratis, Twitter has extended the character limit of messages sent by it's users from present 140 to 280 characters.

This feature had been in test from September with only a selected users to which Twitter gave them these extended character features. This test found out that the people with these extended character limit spent less time in editing their tweets to adjust their messages to 140 characters and tweeted more often. These users also got more followers and in turn spent more time on this social platform.

Aliza Rosen the company product manager said -

" We saw when people needed to use more than 140 characters, they tweeted more easily and more often.

The rollout of this extended character feature has been made in all languages except Japanese ,Korean and Chinese as according to Twitter these languages could contain more information in one character as compared to other languages.

The advent of the latest technologies has helped social messaging platforms to let the users send messages in more characters as compared to the earlier era where message characters where very much limited and now small messages has become a problem of the past.

This extended character feature has been welcomed by the users who found it difficult to adjust their tweets to the previous 140 characters and due to this they sometimes didn't tweet at all.

At the same time some of the users has expressed concern over this feature as according to them the brevity of the message was the essence of Twitter as more number of tweets could be accommodated in a single page.

To this concern on brevity, Twitter responded by saying that only a small percentage hit the limit of 140 characters and so a very small percentage users will be using this extended character feature.

Twitter with this extended character feature will now be able to gain more users on it's platform from their presently 330 million monthly users. This feature has been started rolling out slowly and will be available to all the users.
