In the digital era where most of our world revolves around the gadgets, one thing we are mostly bothered about is the battery backup. This battery backup has become one of the main USP of the gadgets. What we are really concerned about is the capacity of the battery. It’s a common thought among the gadget users that more the battery capacity more is the battery backup. But the most important factor is the battery backup i.e. the amount of time for which the juice can withhold. This has been one of the challenging aspects for battery life.

Battery drain on android

Battery drain is caused by many factors such as on call, on off, connecting to a network. But battery drain due to these cannot be eliminated as these are battery usages. But one of the unwanted reasons for battery drain is the continuous running of the battery even when the mobile is not in use i.e. when locked. These are called wake locks. Wake locks are caused due to apps that prevent the phone to go into deep sleep even when the phone is idle. Wake lock apps continuously poll the phone for information and in turn battery keeps draining.

To control such malicious apps from eating away our battery juice there has been many third party apps available in the Play store to detect such apps and crackdown on wake locks, but now Google has also taken the initiative to get involved in curbing such apps. Users on Twitter (via Android Police) have reported that Google in its latest update of Android OS 8.1 Developer Preview would be having a battery app which would name such abusive apps.

The battery app would name such notorious apps with a red battery icon, and tell you how it’s draining your battery. Tapping the warning icon will give you options to fix the issue. This may be as simple as killing the app or turning the location data for it.

There’s no surety that Google will make such arrangements in it upcoming OS version of 8.1 when it finally releases to the public as Google has been known in the past for such developer previews and finally removing it from the official release.

But it’s an encouraging feature that can give the android users more control over the battery consumption. Google has been testing many such features before such as Doze for the improved performance in the battery life but this initiative is a way further for such features.

Hope that Google considers this feature important and rolls out to the users in its latest update.
